JAMMU, Jan 14: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today booked Assistant Director (Handicrafts) and president of a welfare society for misappropriation of more than Rs 22 lakh.
According to the CBI case, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles sanctioned different projects/workshops in the favor of a NGO namely KJK Welfare Society, which was operational in the villages of district Samba. During the relevant period, VK Savita, Assistant Director Handicrafts of Marketing Service Extension Center was responsible for proper implementation of workshops/ projects.
However, the officer in connivance with NGO president Surjeet Kour, wife of Harbhajan Singh and unknown persons siphoned off Government funds to the tune of Rs 22 lakh during the period between 2009 and 2014.
They have been booked under Section 120-B read with Sections 420/467/468/471/ RPC and 5(2) r/w 5(1) (d) of J&K PC Act.
