JAMMU, Dec 28: The casual and need based workers of  PDD and other departments took out protest march from Press Club towards  Civil Secretariat  here today.
These temporary workers  under the banner of  All Jammu Province Casual/ Need Based Workers Union of  PDD led by Akhil Sharma, State president and  Shesh Kumar- provincial president  assembled at Press Club near Dogra Chowk here in the morning and held strong protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans in support of  their long pending demands.
Several trade union leaders addressed the gathering and criticised the Government for not addressing the pending issues of the workers.  They alleged that Kaam Chhor Hartal of the workers has entered 129th day but the Govt has not bothered to address the pending issues of the workers. They said that despite assurance by the Dy Chief Minister,  holding charge of  PDD, no commitment was honoured.  They alleged that workers are facing starvation and exploitation but the Government is least bothered about it. They strongly condemned the attitude of the Government.
Later, the agitating workers started their protest march towards Civil Secretariat  but they were stopped by the strong contingent of Police force at Gumat market. Their march was foiled by police.   Their main demands included -framing of regularization policy, release monthly wages from the Wage Head, provide insurance policy  and provision of compensation in case of death/ disability of the workers.
Sanjeev Kumar general secretary, Sham Sharma vice president and secretary Sarwar Khan also spoke on the occasion.
