Srinagar, Dec 11: The casual labourerers of the Animal Husbandry Department today staged a protest seeking an increase in their daily wages.
Scores of such workers appeared in the Press Enclave and were seen raising slogans in favor of their demand and urging the higher-ups to address their issues without any delay.
“We have been working for the last more than 13 years in the department, but we are getting nothing in the name of wages due to which we along with our families are suffering,” said Shabir Ahmad, one of the protesters.
The protestors said that the Finance Department has issued an order in which, they said, it has been stated that the temporary workers will get the wages as Rs 225 per day, “but on the contrary, we are given just Rs 100 day which does not serve us in any way,” the protestors said.
They said that they have to travel several kilometers to attend to their duties “and at the end of the day, we get nothing; our families are suffering and we are not even able to pay the school dues of our children,” they said.
The aggrieved protestors said while their families are solely dependent on them, they appeal to the Govt to issue the necessary directions to the Animal Husbandry Department so that their issue is resolved.
