Cash, gold seized from car

JAMMU, Apr 5: Police today detained a Swift car carrying Rs 5.5 lakh cash and 350 grams gold at Railway Chowk, Vijaypur in Samba district with the suspicion that it was meant for use during elections though the evidence didn’t point to that.
Police said Swift car No. JK14 8666 in which two jewelers of Udhampur Rocky Suri and Sikandar Dass were travelling was intercepted at Railway Chowk this evening. Police seized Rs 5.5 lakh and 350 grams gold ornaments from the vehicles.
Police have informed the Election authorities and Income Tax Department about seizure of cash and gold from the car. The Election Observer and Income Tax sleuths would tomorrow examine the cash and gold to ascertain whether it had anything to do with the elections.
Police said further investigations would be taken up after the visit of the Election Commission’s Observer and IT sleuths.
