MUMBAI:  Internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Cary Fukunaga is set for his maiden visit to India as a part of the upcoming Jio MAMI Mumbai film festival.

Fukunaga will conduct a special masterclass on October 25 at a suburban multiplex in Andheri here.

The masterclass in the upcoming 18th edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star will give insights into his craft, challenges and choices of a filmmaker.

The 39-year-old filmmaker is best known for helming the TV series “True Detective”, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

The noir thriller got him a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding direction for a drama series.

“The MasterClass with him would be an invaluable experience for the fans he has in India. Voices like his are rare. He attacks the emotional core of his audience and you can almost taste the diverse worlds he dives into with each of his films. He is singularly brilliant,” Jio MAMI with Star, Creative Director, Smriti Kiran said in a statement.

Festival delegates will also get a chance to interact with Cary through a Q&A post the masterclass.

Considered to be a significant filmmaker of his generation, the director is known for award-winning films like “Sin Nombre” and “Beasts of No Nation”.

On his first visit to India, the festival organisers will also throw an extravagant, mid-festival soiree in honour of the director at AER – Bar & Lounge in association with Chandon on October 24.

The 18th Mumbai Film Festival with Star will be held from October 20 to October 27. (AGENCIES)
