JAMMU, Mar 23: To mark the 86th Martyr’s Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the performance by Natraj Natya Kunj of acclaimed Hindustani play “Gagan Damama Bajyo” highlighting the life and ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, at the Abhinav Theatre here today, came out as a befitting tribute to young revolutionaries and whose supreme sacrifices sit high on the firmament of the freedom struggle of India.
Written in Hindustani by Piyush Mishra and directed by young and talented Abhishek Bharti, the play’s plots opens in 1965 in Delhi where Battukeshwar Dutt, a comrade, is hospitalized and Markand Trivedi asks him “Is today’s India really the India of Bhagat Singh’s dream”. The story of play then goes in the flashback to 1921 and ends in 1994 in Kanpur, where Shiv Verma, another comrade, is alive.
Highlighting Bhagat Singh’s lofty ideals which guided his actions, the play is a critical take on the modern Indian politico-social scenario and subtly brings out the fact that though the British rule had ended, yet another form of tyranny has begun. The play raises a question- ‘Is this India which Bhagat Singh had dreamed about?
