JAMMU, Mar 11: The Food and allied workers engaged in the CAPD Department took out a protest march as a part of their 11- day long strike here today.
A large number of workers of CAPD Department under the banner of Food & Allied Workers’ Union, had gone on strike since March Ist. The public is badly suffering due to non-supply of ration to different areas. The protest is also going on in whole Kashmir region. They are demanding enhancement of their wages and review of the rates of handling food grain bags as the same have not been revised since December 2012. They demanded that their wages be released before 10th of every month and pending payments of the Mufassil workers should also be cleared.
The CAPD workers on strike assembled at New Store behind Asia Hotel and then took out a protest rally towards Nehru Market and University Road Store. They were shouting slogans against the Government. The workers were also raising slogans in support of their demands.
In Srinagar also similar protest march was taken. The working in all the food stores remained paralysed. These workers had launched their agitation on January 8, 2016 upto January 28, after assurance from Director and other senior officers that their issue would be solved within 15 days but after the officers failed to honour their commitment, the workers again went on strike from March 1, 2016. They claimed that strike would be continued till their issue is resolved. This strike has badly affected the ration supplies in the entire State.
