LEH, Apr 1: A cable suspension bridge constructed by Fire and Fury Corps over Indus River at Choglamsar, here was inaugurated by senior war veteran, 89 years old Nk Phunchok Angdus (Retd) in a brief ceremony near old Choglamsar- Chuchot bridge today.
DC, Leh Avny Lavasa, Lt Gen YK Joshi, General Officer Commanding ‘Fire and Fury Corps’, senior army officials, large number of local Army veterans and local people were present on the occasion.
It was informed that it is the longest cable suspension bridge of 260 feet dedicated by senior Ladakhi war veterans of 1947-48, 1962, 1971 and 1999 operations to the locals. The task was undertaken by Army on the request of district administration to help the residents of Choglamsar, Stok and Chuchot villages. It was constructed by the Combat Engineers (Sahas aur Yogyata Regiment) of the ‘Fire and Fury Corps’in a record time of 40 days, ferrying almost 500 tons of bridging equipment and construction, told an Army officer in his speech.
He added that the bridge named Maitri Bridge symbolizes the excellent civil-military relations existing in Leh, Ladakh region as it has been constructed in the year when Fire & Fury Corps is celebrating 20 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
