SRINAGAR, July 6: Police today arrested a burglar who was caught on Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera while decamping with valuables from a house and recovered goods worth three lakhs in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A police spokesman said that last month on June 19, burglary of gold ornaments and cash worth over one lakh was reported in the house of Dr Gowhar Nabi of Dalipora in Babgund area of the district.
“On this a case under FIR number 169/2015 under Sections 454, 380 RPC was registered. During the investigation, police were able to retrieve the photograph of the burglar from CCTV footage as the accused was caught on camera while carrying out burglary inside the house,” the spokesman said.
He said wide publicity was given to the pictures of the burglar through social media and a general look out was published in the daily local newspapers.
“It was thereafter that the identity of burglar was established as Majid Ahmad Ganie of Saidpora in Shopian district,” the police spokesman said.
The accused has been taken into custody and the stolen property including all golden ornaments and cash of one lakh rupees has been recovered on his instance, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a non-local burglar in Pantha Chowk area of city outskirts here.
The burglar has been identified as Mona Lal of Aamin Abad, Lucknow and stolen money of Rs 20000 has been recovered from his passion, police said.
“The accused had stolen the money from the Yatris stationed at Yatra camp Pantha Chowk. He was taken into custody and a case has been registered against him,” the police added.
