POONCH, Dec 10: A PSO of SSP Poonch J S Johar and the driver of Executive Engineer R&B Poonch were injured and at least four vehicles damaged when some people resorted to stone pelting on the cavalcade of Minister for R&B Altaf Ahmed Bukhari at Mendhar town this evening.
The incident took place when the R&B Minister from PDP had gone to Mankote area for the laying foundation stone of two roads link roads and inaugurating Chhajla bridge. The minister was accompanied by MLA Mendhar from NC Javed Rana, Chief Engineer R&B and PMGSY Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Poonch M H Malik and SSP Mr Johar, SE R&B Rajouri Poonch, Executive Engineer R&B Poonch Mushtaq Raina and several other district officers.
At Dak Bungalow the minister and staff had lunch and several deputations met the minister there. A large number of PDP workers were also present. While supporters of former MLA Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan wanted the PDP minister to visit Harni- Ari area and witness the worst condition of road there, the PDP workers led by defeated party candidate Maroof Khan pleaded to adopt other route. It was at around 4 pm and the security agencies had also not cleared Harni route for VIPs visit. The minister refused to visit there on the plea that he was getting late for Poonch and will visit next time.
The party workers from other group including some locals of that area got agitated and started protest. The minister escorted by SSP, SDPO Shahid Nahim and other security officers, sensing trouble, was taken up to the vehicle for onward journey to Poonch. The DC’s vehicle also followed him. Some miscreants then resorted to stone pelting on the cavalcade and vehicles of officers. They damaged at least four official vehicles and caused injuries to the SGC Shakeel Ahmed (PSO of SSP Poonch) and driver Mohd Rafi of the official vehicle of Executive Engineer R&B Poonch. Both the injured were removed to SDH Mendhar. PSO Shakeel got four stitches on his head and was later referred to Jammu. The police led by SSP maintain restraint and controlled the situation.
