Bukhari takes stock of work on new legislature complex

JAMMU, Mar 12: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari today visited the new legislature complex under construction adjacent to the Civil Secretariat, here.
JKPCC officers along with the project architect briefed the Minister about the layout plan of the 42 m high multi-storied complex with building area of 238556 Sft. The building has ample provision for parking in its 2 basement floors.
Bukhari inspected the work on the floors meant for Assembly and Council Business besides officers chambers, press galleries and committee rooms.
Showing concern over the cost escalations in the project, Bukhari directed the Law Secretary to get the issue examined by the 3 member committee consisting of former Chief Engineer, PW(R&B), Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Senior Architect, Farooq Ahmad Naqashbandi, Additional Secretary, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Achal Sethi. The Committee has been tasked to submit the report within 2 weeks after examining the terms of reference and reasons for cost escalations.
Under the approved DPR, the original cost of the project was pegged at Rs 104 crore.
Bukhari directed the concerned officers to speed up the work so that the new legislature complex can be thrown open at the earliest.
