SCPC to be reconstituted, made effective: Zulfkar

JAMMU, Mar 12: Government is serious about effective functioning of Divisional and District level Consumer Forums set up in the State to enable the consumers to seek redressal of their grievances well in time.
This was stated by the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, while interacting with the members of Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) Jammu, which called on him here today.
The Minister said for better services and early redressal of the public grievances, the State Consumer Protection Council (SCPC) will be reconstituted while as the existing Consumer Forums at Divisional and District levels will be refurbished to make these fully functional. The Minister directed the concerned to submit a detailed proposal in this regard.
The Forum members, led by Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) Jammu, President Vikram Gour, raised various issues with regard to consumers’ welfare including consumer services, check on the packed eatables and intensive market checking to curb profiteering and hoarding. The other members, including Vice President, S K Gupta and Secretary CWA, Chander Prakash apprised the minister about various problems being faced by the general public in their day to day life.
Responding to the demands, the Minister assured that the meetings of Price Committee shall be conducted on monthly basis so that measures are taken to regulate the price. He also said that the market checking flying squads have been activated to intensify the market checking.
Earlier, the Minister also checked the Grievance Cell in the Directorate of Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution, Jammu by calling on Toll-free No 1976. The Minister had a firsthand appraisal of the grievances registered in the Cell. He directed the concerned that the action taken report on the registered grievances should be sent to his office on daily basis.
Among others Secretary CA&PD, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Director CA&PD, A S Chib, Joint Controller Legal Metrology, Amar Singh and Deputy Controller Manoj Prabhakar were also present on the occasion.
