Srinagar, Feb 24: The residents of Bon Makhama in district Budgam today protested against the non-availability of the electricity in the area for last more than three months.
The protestors, after exhausting all the options to press upon their issue, appeared in the Press Enclave here and once again appealed to the higher-ups that their demands should be met immediately.
“Since November 5 our area, New Colony Mohalla, is reeling under darkness in the absence of electricity,” said Naseer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of the area.

He said that they have been visiting almost every official in the district administration as well as in the Electricity Department, but nobody has been so far proved to be potent in getting their issue resolved.
“We met the Deputy Commissioner, he gave orders that the electricity must be restored in the area; even the Chief Engineer, as well as the Executive Engineer, have issued the required orders, but nothing has been done,” he said, adding that the court, as well as the Divisional Commissioner, has issued a similar order but to no avail.
The residents said that they, especially their kids as well as the elderly persons are suffering in the absence of the electricity. “We are the labour class of the society so nobody takes us seriously,” the residents said.
While commenting over the reason of not having the electricity in the area, the residents informed that the receiving station Magam was facing overload and due to which the area was shifted to Sunoor-Kalipora receiving station.
“There is an area which falls in between, Radbug, the residents of that area are not allowing the transmission lines to be laid under the road which has been constructed under PMGSY; that is the main impediment as there are few people in the area who are opposing it and the administration has, so far, failed in getting the issue resolved,” the residents said.
The residents have appealed the higher-ups in the Governor’s administration to intervene into the matter and get their issues resolved. “We fail to understand why the administration has not been able to get the things done, we are now appealing the higher-ups to take note of the issue and get their issue resolved without any delay,” they demanded.
