Budgam land owners seek compensation under Central Act

SRINAGAR, Nov 21: Farmers whose land has come under the Semi Ring Road project in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today sought compensation from the Government under Central Land Acquisition Act 2013.
Under the banner of Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Committee, scores of famers assembled in central Kashmir’s Budgam district and called upon authorities to pay compensation as per the central land acquisition law. Also known as right to fair compensation and transparency under land acquisition rehabilitation and resettlement act, law is applicable in Jammu and Kashmir from October 31.
The land of the affected farmers has been acquired by the Government for the construction of Ring Road from Pampore to Ganderbal and would pass through Budgam district. Farmers said that have resolved that they won’t accept any compensation as per Jammu and Kashmir’s Land Acquisition Act of 1934 which has become obsolete as of now.
They added that they smell a rat as Government plans to acquire more than 4000 kanals of fertile land by not making payments as per the central legislation. “We will not give our land for the project if Government doesn’t not pay us compensation 4 times more than the government rate which is a provision under the law. We also want rehabilitation and resettlement for those farmers whose 80% of total land holding gets affected with the land acquisition,” said, G A Paul, President Ring Road Landowners Welfare Committee.
The semi-ring road project is nearly 62-kilometres road which starts from Galender area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and ends in Central Kashmir’s GanderbalDistrcit. It also touches the boundary of Srinagar near Narbal area.
