Accused sent to Hiranagar Sub Jail on remand

SAMBA, Jan 25: District Police Samba has achieved a breakthrough in the case of Parcel IED delivered at the main gate of BSF 173 Bn Headquarters Panj Tilla, Samba on January 5 with the arrest of accused BSF Jawan.
Disclosing this to media persons here, today along with Additional SP, Faisal Qureshi and other officers, SSP Samba, Shakti Pathak said the police has arrested the BSF Constable, Samarpal who had planted the parcel bomb at 173 Bn Headquarters from his native village Pairagacha , P/O Janai in district Hoogly Kolkata West Bengal.
Shakti Pathak said during the sustained interrogation of the accused, Ct. Samarpal confessed his crime and admitted that he had planted the IED.
He said Samarpal disclosed that he wanted to have his posting at Head Quarters as he had extra marital affairs with his colleague but was transferred out to BOP Chilyari.
The jawan disclosed that he being expert in IED was in QRT but was humiliated and was made irrelevant by his transfer to remote post, SSP said. About a week before the date of incident, he was called to Headquarters for IED demonstration in front of DIG. On this date he got access to explosive PEK & detonator, he added.
Pathak said Samarpal also disclosed that other required material to make the IED was arranged by him from different sources. The packet of JBL Bluetooth head phones which was used to prepare IED was sent to Ct. Samarpal as birth day gift by his wife in the month of November last year. The pellets mixed in the explosive were screws, arranged from dysfunctional switches of electric/electronic gadgets, he added.
The Jawan had purchased battery from local Samba market, said SSP, adding the police has also identified the shop. Wrapping material and white paper sheet with address of the Officer was got printed from his colleague. He has also been identified, Pathak said.
He said the accused had kept one extra block of explosive and battery concealed in his box kept at his duty point. During search, both were recovered and seized on his disclosures.
Accused is on remand and lodged in Sub-Jail Hiranagar while investigation is going on, SSP added.
Giving more details SSP said that on January 5 at about 05 PM a written complaint was received from 173 Bn BSF Panjtilla Samba stating that one packet wrapped in silver colour wrapping foil addressed to senior officer was handed over to him.
On opening the packet a carton of JBL Harman Bluetooth was found and on slightly sliding its lid, it was found that explosive material along with battery (IED) was fitted inside, he added.
Maintaining that this was serious matter and was to cause death as well as injuries , Pathak said, a case FIR No.3/2020 U/S 307 IPC, 4/5 Explosive Substance Act was registered at Police Station Samba and the investigation was initiated.
He said acting swiftly on the information, bomb disposal squad, FSL Team, dog squad was deputed on spot. During the investigation, the IED was defused by Bomb Disposal Squad and seized as evidence. Finger prints and other vital clues, were also collected through FSL Team. CCTV footage and witnesses were examined and their statements were recorded which indicated that the IED was planted by one insider Ct. Samarpal, he added.
Ct.Samarpal accused had proceeded on 27 days leave on January 4 after leaving the gift packed IED at the Sentry post of the main gate of BSF Hqrs. Panjtilla Samba, SSP said.
A Police team was deputed to Kolkata and Delhi to arrest the accused Ct. Samarpal S/o Nayan Ranjan Pal. After hectic efforts by the team, the accused was arrested from his native village Pairagacha P/O Janai District Hoogly Kolkata West Bengal and brought back to Samba, he added.
