AHMEDABAD, May 12:
Border Security Force (BSF) has caught 18 Pakistani fishermen with two boats from the Koteshwar creek in Kutch district off Gujarat coast.
“The 18 Pakistanis, including four minors, had entered the Indian waters late in the night with their two boats. They were nabbed by a patrol team of the BSF approximately four km inside the Indian territorial waters in Nar creek area,” an official said today.
“On sudden appearance of BSF patrol party close to International Border (IB), the fishermen were astonished and started running to nearby island of creek but the BSF party challenged them, chased and did not allow them to cross over into Pakistan area. The boats were brought to the coast and during the initial interrogation those nabbed have claimed to be fishermen and to have entered Indian waters in search of fish and prawns,” he added.
Among the things recovered from the nabbed included a mobile phone, 90 litres of diesel, 350 kg fish, four fishing nets, an ice box and 11 plastic cans. “No suspicious item has been found from the boats. They have since been handed over to the local police for further action,” the official said.
The apprehended Pakistan fishermen are residents of Chhacha Jan Khan, Dist. Thatta, Pakistan, BSF claimed.
The announcement of capture of the fishermen comes soon after the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) apprehended 10 Indian fishermen with their two trawlers off Gujarat coast near International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). (UNI)
