Brainstorming debate on plagiarism held in BGSBU

RAJOURI, Dec 6: A brain storming discussion was held on the topic of Plagiarism, among the scholars of various Universities and experts on the fifth day of ongoing 10-day workshop, organized by Central Library of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University at Rajouri campus.
During the last 5 days, discussions were held on the topic   “Information Literacy and Plagiarism” in which scholars and experts discussed vital points of the topic.
Giving details, Coordinator of the workshop said that during the first half of the workshop, deliberations were made on wide range of concerns like lack of information literacy among scholarly community, identification and consumption of most authentic and authoritative information etc. He said that the consumption of adulterated and contaminating information may have far-reaching consequences, the effect of which may even turn irreversible. He added that deliberations were also made about the prevalent academic misconduct among the scholarly community.
During the workshop concerns were raised towards the growing menace of plagiarism among the scholarly community, which of the late, has started coming to fore in numbers, especially after pressing in services of plagiarism detection software’s.
The participants were also given some tips towards effective research writing. Awareness was drawn among participants towards the legal issues involved with the production, distribution and use of pirated softwares and how this practice can actually land one behind the bars, if sued in the court of law by the proprietor.
Participants were also given some live demonstration about the use of plagiarism detection software’s, reference management software’s, both proprietary & non-proprietary, which faculty members and scholars can make use of effectively in their academic and research activities.
During the remaining half of the workshop deliberations will be made on issues like Copyright, Censorship, Intellectual Property Rights, Research and Information ethics etc.
