Border blues

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Centre, State committed to address issue of border dwellers’ DE Nov 20.
The stand taken by the State Government to redress the grievances of border residents is more than welcome. It is a humanitarian issue and need to be addressed on priority basis. The border residents have suffered terribly during the last so many years due to constant shelling from Pakistan. They have lost their kith and kin, cattle, property, crops and education of their children.
Despite braving these odds, they have kept their spirits high. However, what is causing consternation among them is the official apathy. They feel that despite making claims, both State and Central Governments have not done much for their welfare. They feel that their compensation claims are not considered quickly and sympathetically by the concerned quarters. Those who have got injured feel that they are not paid adequately to meet their expenses. There are not sufficient bunkers to house  them during firing from across the LoC.
The State and Central Governments  must redouble their efforts to mitigate the problems of these residents.
Yours etc…
Veer Singh
