JAMMU, May 13: Notwithstanding a clear judgement by the Supreme Court on National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET), the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) is allegedly allowing confusion over participation of MBBS and BDS aspirants in the scheduled JK Combined Entrance Test (CET) on May 14 and 15, 2016.
The PCB (Physics Chemistry Bio-Science) as one of the subject combinations for the CET, as per the fresh notification by the BOPEE, has left the MBBS and BDS aspirants utterly confused over whether to appear in the scheduled Combined Entrance Test or not.
Even as BOPEE has to conduct the entrance test for the professional courses, other than MBBS and BDS, its notification No. 26-BOPEE of 2016, Dated: 11-05-2016, asks the aspirants to appear in the examination as per their particular subject combination -PCM, PCB and PCBM thus creating confusion for the candidates, who kept approaching the Excelsior as well as BOPEE office for seeking clarification over the same till late this evening.
While the BOPEE is allegedly not making a clarification in this regard, a fresh scroll appearing on the agency’s website, stating that `any candidate appearing in the JKCET is not debarred from appearing in any other entrance test. He is free to so appear’, is adding more confusion to the MBBS and BDS aspirants of the State.
The subject combination of PCB and the language of this scroll give an impression that MBBS and BDS aspirants can appear in both JKCET and NEET whereas the BOPEE has no authority to conduct entrance test for the Medical.
“Me along with my friend are preparing for MBBS. Earlier, BOPEE stated that it will conduct CET except MBBS and BDS but now they updated the notification asking all the aspirants with PCB, PCM and PCBM subject combinations to reach their allotted centres,” said Vikas, a student while expressing his dilemma.
A number of other students, who rang up the Excelsior office seeking a clarification over the confusion, alleged that the BOPEE officials were not making a clear reply but only asking them to visit the official website, which was making them more confused. “We are totally confused whether to appear in this exam or not,” said another candidate.
When contacted, Chairman BOPEE, G H Tantray also admitted that the MBBS, BDS aspirants were little bit confused over the subject combination of PCB for the scheduled JKCET on Saturday and Sunday.
“However, we are not at fault as there are BUMS, BAMS, Physiotherapy and like other eight professional courses for which CET is being conducted by BOPEE with PCB and PCBM subject combinations,” he explained and added that the scroll was being displayed on the website to make it clear that the candidates are free to appear in any entrance test besides CET.
Pertinent to mention that 30400 candidates have applied for CET, which is going to be held on Saturday and Sunday, for which 27 examination centres have been established in Jammu and 34 in Srinagar.
As per the Supreme Court order, admissions for the MBBS and BDS can be made only through NEET.
