Bootlegger, absconder

RAMBAN, Sept 15: Banihal police arrested a bootlegger and an absconder.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T Chowk and intercepted a Tavera car bearing registration number JK02AH-0811.
During checking, police recovered 4 beer bottles, 3 bottles and 6 pouches of illicit liquor from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Vikas Kumar, son of Pritam Chand, a resident of Mandir Gali, Tehsil Banihal, District Ramban. He had brought the consignment from Jammu for selling among the masses in his native area to make illegitimate profits.
A case under FIR Number 157/18 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team from Banihal Police Station also arrested an absconder, who was evading his arrest since long.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Majeed alias Balal, son of Mohammad Hanif Gujar, a resident of Maralian Miran Sahib Tehsil RS Pura Jammu.
He was wanted in a case registered under FIR Number 23/2011 under Sections 188 RPC and 3 PCA Act with Police Station Banihal. Arrest warrant under Section 512 CrPC also stands issued against him by JMIC Banihal.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
