JAMMU, July 8: Independent and Congress Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today joined to highlight that apathy leading to insanitation conditions still prevail in the city and claimed that people are losing faith in them.
In a press conference these Councillors said strength of Safai Karmcharis with JMC is very less and there is lack of supervision too.
They claimed that it came to their notice that JMC is going to hold general house meeting on July 17 for which questions and resolutions have been demanded upto July 8 but it is astonishing that meeting notices have not been served to most of the Councillors till date.
They also demanded implementation of 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment to provide constitutional status to the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipalities in J&K.
The Congress and Independent Councillors also demanded inauguration of different schemes and works in their Wards and release of funds for developmental activities.
Regular meetings of Standing Committee and facilities for Safai Karamcharis like mask, gloves, uniform, long boots, equipments for clearing drains etc were also demanded apart from fixing responsibility on contractor for maintaining quality works like black-topping.
The Councillors said that collection of user charges is not possible without providing facilities to the households.
The Councillors who were present in the press conference were Sham Lal Basson, Dwarka Nath Choudhary, Vijay Choudhary, Gourav Chopra, Amit Kumar Gupta, Sobat Ali, Inder Singh Sudan, Inderjit Kour Randhawa, Anita Sharma, Sonika Sharma, Anu Bali, Pritam Singh, Sandhya Gupta, Ritu Choudhary, Rani Devi and Jagdish Raj Sharma.
