RAMBAN, April 23: Demanding the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in the Jammu region, the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest demonstration, here today.
The protest witnessed participation from a large number of party workers and youth activists, who gathered at a prominent location in the town to voice their concerns over what they termed as the “continued neglect” of Jammu’s educational infrastructure, particularly in the field of legal education.
Raising slogans and holding placards, the demonstrators emphasized the need for providing quality legal education opportunities to the youth of Jammu province.
During the protest, the workers also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as a mark of protest, accusing administrations of failing to prioritize higher education development in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, several BJYM leaders highlighted that the absence of a premier law institution in Jammu forces aspiring students to move outside the region, leading to financial and logistical hardships.
They asserted that establishing a National Law University would not only strengthen academic infrastructure but also open new avenues for youth in legal studies and related professions.
The protest remained largely peaceful, with participants reiterating their commitment to continue the agitation until their demand is fulfilled.
They called upon the administration to take immediate steps to address the issue and ensure equitable development of educational institutions across all regions of the Union Territory.
“The fight for education and justice will continue until the rightful demands of Jammu’s youth are met,” one of the protesting leaders stated.
Local authorities monitored the situation to ensure law and order and no untoward incident was reported during the demonstration.
