NEW DELHI, Apr 6: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh today thanked the voters for the massive turnout and said that with the conclusion of the third and last phase of polling for the Assam Assembly election, the BJP victory is sealed for definite.
When the results are declared on 2nd of May, Assam is going to send out a message, loud and clear, which is going to echo across the country, he said.
In a media interview this evening, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that in each of the three phases of polling, the voter turnout was consistently around 80% and the highlight was that it was a pro-incumbency vote. He recalled that in 2016 also, the voting percentage was in the same range but it was anti-incumbency against Congress and in support of BJP, whereas this time it is again in support of BJP but with pro – incumbency.
Giving a statistical analysis, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, usually what is seen is that when a political party is in power for five years, in the following election there is bound to be some degree of anti-incumbency to a smaller or larger extent. As a result of this, the vote percentage polled by the ruling party either goes down because of a section of vote going to the opposition parties or some committed voters who feel disillusioned do not go out to vote and that also leads to fall in the percentage of the votes polled, he said. However, this is a unique election where the BJP is receiving almost the higher or same percentage of votes as it had received in the last election of 2016, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, what is going to be noted with glory is that in the last seven years, the State not only underwent revolutionary transformation as far as development is concerned, but even the psychological barriers were done away with and people of the entire region have completely intermingled and integrated with the people in rest of India. Today, even in the far-off Southern and Western States of India, the choicest Aviation/Air Crew or the Hotel Management Industry is manned by youngsters from the North Eastern Region, he added.
