RAIPUR (DOMANA), July 7: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today dared Bharatiya Janata Party to join public debate with National Confe-rence on abrogating Article 370 instead of raising a bogey over it with an eye on elections.
“The day L K Advani raked up this issue, due to expediency of Narendra Modi’s emergence in his party, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had asked him to elaborate how this Article could be revoked from the Constitution, the BJP patriarch had no explanation”, Mr Rana said while addressing party functionaries and Panchayat representatives at Raipur Domana near here this afternoon.
Mr Rana took pity over the political appreciation of Bharatiya Janata Party, saying they keep the issues like Article 370 and Ram Temple under carpet for four years and only raise these before the elections. “Either they are used to day dreaming or their have failed in comprehending the political sagacity of the people, who refuse to get swayed by such emotive slogans”, he maintained.
The Provincial President reiterated that this important Article of the Constitution cannot even be abrogated by Parliament and said knowing well this harsh reality, BJP leadership was indulging in rhetoric just to hoodwink public opinion and to push their extremist agenda. He reminded the BJP leadership about the realistic approach of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee over Article 370. Recalling Mr Vajpayee’s reply to a question of a journalist on Article 370, when he was External Affairs Minister, the veteran leader had said that it is easy to say anything when in Opposition, and it different when in Government.
Mr Rana cautioned people against divisive tendencies of elements inimical to secular ethos and said polarising society on the eve of elections is a bad omen which has potential of fragmenting India into pieces and demolishing its secular identity.
The Provincial President said that BJP and People’s Democratic Party were hand in glove to weaken the inclusiveness and single identity of the State for their political gains. He referred to public pronouncements being made by a PDP legislator in Poonch claiming to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a state like Modi’s Gujarat.
Those present on the occasion included, District President J&K National Conference District Jammu Rural Satpal Lakhotra, ex- Legislator Th. Kashmir Singh, party leaders K.D. Singh, Ram Saroop, Ch.
