JAMMU, Jan 17: Led by BJP OBC Morcha State president, Rashpal Verma, Morcha team called on Bhagwan Lal Sahni, national chairman of Backward Classes, during his visit to here yesterday.
A memorandum containing plight and demands of the OBCs was submitted to the Chairman, wherein, it was submitted that their community has been the actual deprived caste, having no access to politics, judiciary, bureaucracy, industry, art and culture, higher education, economy etc. Since erstwhile State polity has not been sincere towards the rights of socially and educationally backward people in J&K, Commissions after Commissions were constituted but nothing happened on ground for the upliftment of OBC people of J&K which has remained stalled since 1993.
The memorandum demanded implementation of 27% reservation to OBCs in Government jobs and admissions to educational institutions as per the recommendations of Mandal Commission and constitution of Backward Classes Commission in JKUT the members of which including Chairman should be from OBC community like other states and UTs. It expressed concern that the existing Commission has no member of OBC community in it.
Other demands in the memorandum were extending jurisdiction of National Backward Classes Commission to JKUT like other UTs of the country, political reservation of OBCs. It said that there is no MLA, MP, MLC from OBCs in J&K which causes frustration and anxiety among the community, adding for scholarship to students of OBCs at par with students of SC/STs, scrapping all reservations on the basic of backward areas and language, issue one certificate of being OBC instead of two-vis OBC/OCS, political reservation to OBCs on all India level on the pattern of SC/ST, conducting of survey of OBCs in JKUT to assess their economic and educational status and the team conducting survey should have the list of 58 castes falling in OBC category and there should be no income bar for issuance of OBC certificates.
The delegation hoped that with the restoration of single Constitution for the entire country now, The OBCs in JKUT will get due legitimate rights and justice.
The members of the team included vice-presidents, Nittu Verma, Sonia Verma and Anju Dogra, general secretaries Sukhjit Singh and Brhamjot Satti, secretary Lucky Verma, spokesperson Jagdish Panday, Sham Lal Verma, Pashori Lal, Sham Lal, Naresh Verma, Narinder Kumar, Sat Pal Verma, Rakesh Kumar, Girdhari Lal.
