JAMMU, Dec 26: To register protest against Delhi rape case, over 100 activists of BJP Mahila Morcha under the leadership of their State president Sakina Bano held a protest dharna at Canal Road here today.
Raising slogans against the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre they accused it of its total failure to ensure safety of the fair sex.
Sakina Bano, while addressing the protesting women said that the recent human act of gang rape of a girl in Delhi followed by brutal torture, is a blot on the Indian society. This incident has shoked the whole nation and the people are on roads.
She said that rape cases are also being reported in J&K from time to time and the decades old laws are not enough to deal with such crimes effectively. The frequent cases of rape can be checked only by bringing in strong law to deal such crimes with provision of capital punishment and speedy trial of those involved in such cases. This has become all the more important in view of the repeated cases of rapes in the capital city of the country, which has indicated that the females are not safe in any part of the country.
Sakina Bano said that the BJP and its Mahila Morcha have always fought for the rights of women, their dignified social life and security. The party has granted 33 per cent reservation to women in its organizational setup, which itself is a proof that the party is committed to due rights to women in the society.
Mahila Morcha leaders and activists including Sushma Manhas, Raj Rani Jamwal, Priya Sethi, Anju Dogra, Bimla Padha, Parveen Arora, Sheela Handoo, Swaran Arora, Tripta Jamwal, Kanta Devi, Heena, Juhi Gupta, Arti Dogra, Meenakshi Singh, Renu Bala, Jyoti Gupta, Renu Dogra, Namrata Singh, Bholi Devi, Pushpa Devi, Kranti Devi, Sabita Gupta and other took part in the protest dharna.
Meanwhile, BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma has condemed police action on migrant relief holder and ReT teacher at Jammu.
