JAMMU, Nov 1: Maintaining that the empowerment of Panchyats will be incomplete unless and until the Block Developmental Councils (BDCs) and District Planning and Development Boards (DPDBs) are constituted, BJP today expressed the hope that soon after the completion of Panchayat elections in the State, the Governor’s administration will concentrate on formation of DBS and DPBs.
This demand was made by the BJP’s State Incharge for Panchayati Raj Cell, Anil Sharma, while talking to reporters at party Headquarters, here, today along with BJP State spokesperson, Pt. Ashok Khajuria and State Incharge Legal Cell, Adv. Hunar Gupta.
Anil Sharma, said that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had earlier called for the empowerment of Panchayats during his Independence Day address from ramparts of the Red Fort to strengthen the basic institutions of the democracy in the State and for this the constitution of BDCs and DPDBs is utmost necessary. “We appeal to the Governor of the State, S. P. Malik to take necessary steps in this regard’’, he added.
Sharma, also demanded security cover of the Panchayat leaders be enhanced so as to enable them have to work more vigorously and dedicatedly in all circumstances. He said that many of Panchayat leaders have already applied for security due to certain threats, but still they are not provided any security cover. He also made an appeal to DGP of the State, Dilbag Singh in this regard.
