SRINAGAR July 14: A select delegation of BJP called on and had threadbare discussions with the Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes here today.
The delegation comprised of Dr D K Manyal, general secretary BJP, Ranbir Singh Pathania, BJP spokesperson, Rashpal Verma, national secretary, OBC Morcha, Braham Jyot Satti, president, OBC Morcha, Iqbal Malik, DDC member from Darhal and Ch Roshan Din, vice president, ST Morcha.
While addressing media persons at BJP Headquarters, here, party general secretary, Dr D K Manyal said that they pitched for inclusion of various communities in various categories and following the pattern which is in vogue on the national level.
BJP said that with the promulgation of the J&K Reorganisation Act, the idea of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ has been achieved in J & K. “As such, there is dire need to give a fresh look to the reservation module in J&K”, he added.
They have sought empanelment of ‘Valmikis’ and ‘Vashisths’ as SCs and also that derogatory word of ‘Churra’ should be replaced with ‘Valmiki’ in official records.
While making out a case for the inclusion of more communities in the ST category, the BJP leaders said that PSP ‘Pahari speaking people’ ‘Paddari & Pogali speaking people’ as ‘linguistic minorities.’
“Kolis’ having identical culture, language, living with ‘Sippis’ as well as ‘Gaddis’ too. Gadde Brahmans who are ‘Purohits of Gaddis,’ ‘Rupayals’ need to be considered too. A detailed data in this regard has been compiled and submitted to the Commission,” Manyal said.
With regard to OSCs, he said, a request was made to rename this category as ‘OBCs’ (Other Backward Classes) on the national pattern. “Ceiling of the reservation should also be judiciously fixed to ensure real benefit to the discriminated communities,” BJP said.
The communities which were sought to be included under the OBC category include ‘Sunars’, ‘Chang-Ghirath’ and ‘Bhati’ ‘Jats’, ‘Sainis’, ‘Jogi/Nath’ ‘Julahas’ ‘Acharyas’, ‘Bazigar’, ‘Jangam’, ‘Lobana’, ‘Sochi’ ‘Nadialas’ ‘Perna’ ‘Sansi’ ‘Kouro’ and ‘Trans genders’ more so, ‘West Pak refugees’, ‘POJK internally displaced persons’ were also sought to be included in OBC category.
“Due to persistent refusal of PRCs, and right to Government jobs and admissions in educational institutions, they have suffered and are having low economic levels,” the party said.
About the Reserve Backward Area (RBA) category/status, it was argued to be ensured so that those people who virtually putting up in these areas and facing the brunt of slipshod educational, infrastructural facilities are given the benefit of this reservation. “More so, this status needs to be reviewed periodically,” BJP said.
