JAMMU, Mar 25: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), State spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, while taking cognizance of the anti-national slogans raised by the NC candidate from Baramulla Constituency, Mohammed Akhbar Lone, appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to initiate action against him.
Taking strong exception to the statement of Lone, Chrungoo while talking to reporters here, today said his slogans like “Pakistan Zindabad” are tantamount to violating the atmosphere in the State and are aimed at derailment of the whole election process. It is also a conspiracy to polarize the people of the State on communal basis. “We condemn such slogans and anti-national stance taken by the NC candidate,. His justifying the statement and the slogans is also adding insult to the injury”, he added. It is strange to note that a person who has remained the constitutional head of the Legislative Assembly in the State and who has taken an oath on the Constitution of India will succumb to such a level of conspiracy to fail the whole election process.
He said NC and PDP are competing with each other to make it sure that each of them is a “bigger secessionist”. Their public discourse and assertions are flavoured with anti-national and anti-peace representation. In order to consolidate their votes, both the parties have decided to stoop to any level. The support extended by the two Kashmir centric parties to the Congress party is one more glaring example showing that the trio is on the same page damaging Indian interests in a sensitive State like Jammu & Kashmir.
Chrungoo said it needs to be made clear that the efforts of Mehbooba Mufti to raise issues like “political resolution” and calling these elections as “determining the future status of J&K” are not only atrocious but irrelevant too. It is simply to hoodwink the opinion of people by telling them to keep embarking on the idea of so-called resolution of Kashmir issue. She needs to know that she would be contesting the elections for the same Lok Sabha that unanimously passed the resolution on J&K State in 1994 asking for liberation of Pak occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
He said Governments action against separatists and terrorist outfits besides filing and pursuing cases against the separatist symbol Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Hawala funds is also a welcome step.
State press secretary & media incharge, Dr. Pradeep Mahotra and State incharge, Nanaji Deshmukh Library & Documentation Kulbhushan Mohtra were also present in the press conference.
Condemning Lone for raising “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans during an election rally,
State BJP general secretary & incharge Jammu -Poonch Lok Sabha Constituency, Yudhvir Sethi asked ECI to cancel his candidature and initiate action against him.
In his statement Sethi said last year also Lone had shouted `Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans in the Legislative Assembly. He added that NC leader is habitual of his Pro-Pak stand and instigates youth of Kashmir to tow wrong lines instead of asking them to be part of development, peace and prosperity. He said such leaders must be booked and charges of sedition filed against them.
He urged the NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah to clear his stand over the statement and asked people to boycott NC leaders of Jammu.
