The NHAI has floated tender for the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the officials said, adding the tender, covers consultancy services for the DPR of the highway project aimed at improving connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Bidding has begun, with the last date for submission set as June 22 and the technical bids will be opened on June 23.
The project falls under the jurisdiction of NHAI headquarters in New Delhi.
The project will further enhance connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Besides Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the Mughal road also connects the Valley from Jammu via Rajouri though it’s a fair weather road.
Direct train service has already been launched between Jammu and Srinagar and presently two Vande Bharat Express trains are operating on the route.
The planned route will pass through regions such as Mahore, Gulabgarh and Nandimarg, which often remain vulnerable to road disruptions due to harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain, the officials said, adding the authorities believe the project could significantly improve all-weather connectivity for residents living in these remote pockets.
“The highway is expected to substantially reduce travel time, improve inter-regional mobility, and facilitate economic activity across the districts falling along the alignment,” they said.
The proposed corridor is also likely to boost tourism and trade by enhancing accessibility to several hilly and underserved areas.
The proposed highway corridor is being viewed as an important infrastructure initiative with the potential to strengthen connectivity, improve accessibility in remote areas, and support long-term socio-economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
