JAMMU, Mar 20: BJP leader and Working Committee member Sheela Handoo today led a delegation of the Party activists to Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Ch Zulfkar Ali and demanded that the Kashmiri migrants who don’t fall under relief category be brought under the ambit of National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The delegation submitted a memorandum to Minister.
The BJP leader informed the Minister that over two lakh migrants putting up in Jammu have been deprived of benefits under NFSA and this nullifies the basic spirit of the Act despite the fact that they are ready to make the payment for the ration provided to them.
She said even the quota of sugar has not been given to migrants from a pretty long time which is a cause of concern among the displaced people.
Handoo wanted to know why there is such a discrimination with the exiled people and why they have been deprived of the benefits under NFSA as given to the other people of the State.
She said the process of making the new ration cards was started by the Relief Organization to cover the migrants under the NFSA by seeking the applications from the migrants but the fate of such applications is also not known.
The other members of delegation included Bushan Lal Koul and M K Razdan.
