Srinagar, July 27: Former Chief Minister of Madya Pradesh and senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today said that the party is aiming to come to power in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters at a membership drive of the party at SKICC here today, the BJP leader said: “We are aiming to come to power here as well because BJP means empowerment, development. To achieve that we have to have a strengthened party structure and for that, the membership will play a great role. That’s what we are doing in the country,” he said. Click here to watch video
Chouhan said that he was happy that people from Jammu and Kashmir were choosing BJP because “they see the ray of light in it.” He also said that the footfall of the BJP was increasing in the State every day.
The BJP leader said that the saffron party was out to end the family rule in Jammu and Kashmir, as it has done with the Congress. “When one family rules, the people really don’t get anything, but under PM Modi’s leadership, the party is reaching out to the lower strata of the society and is ensuring their development,” he said.
While coming down heavily on Omar Abdullah for his recent statement, Chouhan said that the National Conference was worried as the BJP was making in-roads to the State. “They fail to understand, how BJP was making it to Kashmir. I assure you that, as we are strengthening the party structure, and reach to the grassroots, we will form the Government in the State soon,” he said.
The BJP leader said that despite boycott people participated in huge numbers in recently held Panchayat elections. “We have 102 Corporators of BJP and the lower stratum of the society has been empowered, things are getting done,” he said.
He said BJP wants the faith of the people of J&K which can be achieved only after “we can change the lives of the people living in the State”.
“Our people in Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh are working to strengthen the party structure. In rural areas, people are joining. We are aiming at the development of the state; we want the faith of the people of the state so that we can reshape their lives,” Chouhan said.
Speaking on the occasion, State president of the BJP, Ravinder Raina, said that his party is trying hard to woo as much members as possible into the party fold through its ongoing membership drive in Kashmir. He said that this time Chief Minister will be from the BJP.
He took a dig at the National Conference working president Omar Abdullah and said that Omar is right that if people won’t vote, BJP will come to power.
“The fact is that people would vote in the upcoming Assembly polls en-masse and BJP will emerge as a single largest party. We will have a Chief Minister of our own and J&K under his leadership will witness a new era of peace and prosperity,” he said.
He said that Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti are trying to mislead people of Kashmir by creating fear psychosis about arrival of additional companies.
He said that additional forces were a requirement for a peaceful election in the State and more forces were coming for that purpose only. “Elections will take place soon and BJP will sweep the polls across the State,” he said.
The BJP carried out a membership drive at SKICC here, where people in large numbers formally joined the party during a jam-packed event.
