BIS holds awareness program

REASI, Apr 21: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized an awareness programme for the progressive farmers at Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
The programme was attended by more than 50 farmers including women farmers from different villages and KVK officials.
Dr Banarasi Lal, Head KVK Reasi in his welcome address gave a brief outline of the awareness programme stating that the motto of KVK is to educate, support and promote farmers who are the backbone of our economy.
Satyadeo Lal gave an overview of the working of BIS. He said that BIS is the quality ecosystem of the country and promotes quality, safety and reliability of products and services through various BIS Conformity Assessment Schemes.
Nisha Bura, Joint Director, JKBO talked about the role of Indian Standards in change-over from conventional farming to sustainable agriculture which can be achieved through the efficient use of farmland, best agricultural practices, quality seeds, compost, pesticides, etc.
In the end, Nisha Bura demonstrated ‘BIS Care App’ through which information on Indian Standards, authenticity of ISI Mark of products and Hallmark of jewellery can be checked. BIS Care App can also be used to register complaints regarding the quality of the product or misuse of ISI mark.
