JAMMU, May 25: The 18th “Housing for All” Standing Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria was held in the conference hall of JMC to discuss the progress of scheme and the way forward.
At the meeting, the Committee discussed payment issues, the progress of beneficiaries’ homes, and the new household beneficiaries who have applied for the scheme. Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria has raised serious questions about the non-release of instalments to the beneficiaries, and people still waiting to submit the new cases.
The Deputy Mayor said that despite the assurance of the Housing & Urban Development Department, the instalments of the beneficiaries have not been released so far and those who have applied are still waiting for the release of the same. He said that the objective of the Housing for All Scheme is to provide shelter to the homeless people and those living in slums, but the delay in the release of the instalments has made the beneficiaries anxious.
He said that the Housing & Urban Development Department has not taken any action to release the instalments to the beneficiaries despite the assurance of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Deputy Mayor said his endeavour is to ensure that every family has its own home which is the dream of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He said that the present Government has taken several steps to provide housing to the homeless people and those living in slums, but the non-release of instalments has become a major problem in the implementation of the scheme.
The Committee resolved to take swift action in order to reduce any delays in payment and to ensure that all beneficiaries receive their payments on time. Additionally, the Committee noted that the construction of beneficiaries’ homes is to be completed as soon as possible. The total house approved under Housing for All Scheme is 2290 for which total expenditure is Rs. 1754.80 lacs.
He said that the Government should look into the matter and take necessary steps to ensure the release of instalments to the beneficiaries as soon as possible. Sharda Devi, member of Housing for All Scheme, said that the delay in the release of the instalments is hampering the implementation of the scheme and the Government should take steps to address the issue.
Deputy Mayor, said “Through this scheme, we are providing access to safe, secure and affordable housing for those who are unable to afford it on their own,.We are providing assistance to eligible families and individuals, who are currently living in unsafe and inadequate housing, to apply for and receive financial support to cover the cost of housing”, he added.
