JAMMU, May 18: As a part of its service to the society   Bharatiya Yog Sansthan (BYS) organized a special session on Stress /Depression Management and Good Health at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar, here, today.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma was the chief guest on the occasion while welcome address was read by Jia Lal, Secretary, BYS.
He also introduced the main speaker to the audience and said that Yoga Achraya Des Raj is author of six nationally acclaimed books on Yoga.
Suresh Vij, Mantri BYS, gave introductory lecture on working of Sansthan. He said that in J&K, Sansthan, Gole Gujral, Jammu is running 125 Yoga Sadhana Kendras in and around Jammu, Samba and Udhampur. Yoga at these centers is taught daily by expert volunteers (Shikshaks) of the Sansthan free of cost.
Yoga Acharya, Des Raj, general secretary of Sansthan conducted the session and deliberated with the participants. Around 300 teachers, 400 students and 500 Yog lovers besides various prominent citizens participated in the programme.
Yoga Acharya said that stress and depression have become common ailments nowadays and there are various reasons for it. Unhealthy lifestyle or daily routine, domestic problems, excess of work, urge to go ahead in the race of life, injustice, non-recognition, uncaring children/family, negative thinking, drug addiction etc. are some of the common reasons. Medical science does not seem to have any proper solutions or treatments for these ailments, he added.
Regular practice of Yog Asans shall, in the initial stages, bring improvement in the physical wellbeing of the body. As the practice deepens the mental tension and stress will ease out. Similarly, regular and accurate practice of selected set of Pranayamas will bring calmness and peace into the mind of the practitioner and thereby mental tension or stress is removed.  Again, regular practice of Dyana helps in controlling the thought process and one turns inwards. Mind becomes peaceful and stress-free, he added.
He said negative thoughts are replaced by positive ones. Strong desire for serving the society and mankind emerges. Further, he said that stressed and depressed people need to take fresh fruits in good quantity, besides salads and green vegetables.
Spicy and fried and sour eatables, pickle, tea, coffee and sugar should be avoided. He further said reading good literature, getting into contact with positive thinking people, doing good in the present and reciting OM 21 times shall definitely help such people.
Sanjeev Verma , Divisional Commissioner while speaking on the occasion appreciated the role played by the Yog Sansthan for involving lakhs of people in daily Yog Abyas. He said that it is an established fact that Yog is journey of self, through self, to the self.  It adds years to the life of the practitioner and also life to one’s years, he said. Yog is gift to the nation as it helps in transformation of individual for leading a balanced life, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Education Officer, Jammu complimented Bhartiya Yog Ashram Jammu for conducting this programme for teachers and students.
