SAMBA, Dec 22: Former ministers Raman Bhalla and Manjit Singh today visited the fire sufferers at Main Bazaar, Vijaypur where several shops were gutted in a fire incident in the market Monday night.
They were accompanied by other party workers. Both the Congress leaders were informed by the shopkeepers that the fire brokeout due to short circuit. They assured the fire sufferers of all possible help. They expressed their grief over the loss of property in the incident and expressed sympathy with the affected families.
While interacting with them, they demanded that necessary instructions should be passed to the District Administration Samba to prepare a detailed report about the quantum of losses suffered so that adequate compensation is provided to them. They said that the Government should do all that is needed to ensure their proper rehabilitation.
Responding to the demands of the shopkeepers of the locality; they assured them that they will take up their demands with the concerned. They were told that two shops including one cloth house and one Hardware and Machinery shop and a Santro Car were fully damaged and three other adjoining shops got partially damaged.
All efforts of the public who gathered in Vijaypur town to control the fire failed as its impact was fierce.  About a dozen fire tenders from Samba, Bari-Brahmana and Gangyal were pressed into service to control the fire and they succeeded after a long struggle. The victims whose shops were damaged, said that they have suffered a heavy loss.
