JAMMU, Feb 19: The Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today launched the renovation work on the Shastri Nagar housing flats involving a cost of Rs. 15 lakh.
The Managing Director Housing Board Kiran Wattal, Executive Engineers, JMC, R&B and Housing Board were also present on the occasion.
Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to provide improved basic amenities to the tenants. He asked for improving the condition of recreational park in the area by installing benches and illumination facilities there.
Responding to the demands of the residents, the Minister asked the Executive Engineer R&B to immediately start the renovation work of compound wall so that the residents do not face any inconvenience.
Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to prepare the inventory of Housing Board assets besides available land across the State, adding that Government was keen to develop new colonies as per the master plan under self financing schemes. He stressed the need to put the assets of the board to best use and revenue generation.
The Minister said development of housing colonies in urban as well as in rural areas of the State was receiving main focus of the Government. He said the colonies would be developed on modern lines with all basic amenities like safe drinking water, road connectivity, electricity, parking, playfield, super bazaar and recreational parks.
Mr. Bhalla asked for effective implementation of Centrally sponsored Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana (RGAY) scheme for rehabilitation of slum dwellers, adding that the scheme aims to tackle the problems of slums in a definitive manner. He said Central and State Governments were committed to improve the living condition of homeless.
Mr. Bhalla also kick started upgradation work of lane in the Housing Colony at Shastri, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 21 lakh. He asked the JMC to complete the project by fixing Paver tiles including grating over surface drains.
Later, the Minister visited Ambedkar Nagar near Trikuta Nagar Extension-1 and launched construction work of lanes and drains including 20 meter nallah slab, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 10 lakh.
He asked the executing agency to complete the works within stipulated time frame by using quality material.
