JAMMU, Feb 28: Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture and Youth Services and Sports Raman Bhalla today inaugurated newly renovated corporate level office of Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board (JKHB) near Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar.
Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Kiran Wattal, Director Local Bodies Kuldeep Lal Khajuria, Managing Director JKHB Ram Pal Sharma, besides other senior officers of JKHB and JMC were present on the occasion.
After inauguration, Mr. Bhalla interacted with the officers of JKHB and asked them to complete all the ongoing projects executed     in double shifts. He said JKHB is working  on a new comprehensive plan to establish new colonies to provide houses  under self-financing scheme. He stressed the need to put the assets of the board to best use and revenue generation.
The Minister stressed the need for developing more residential colonies in new areas for accommodating the houseless people. He asked to lay stress on evolving innovative measures to further tone up the functioning of JKHB to make it a competitive and profit earning organization.
Mr. Bhalla said Government has given its nod to some new initiatives of the Housing Board which include development of colonies at Dhani Dhar Rajouri, Battal Wallian, Udhampur, Meen Charkan in Samba besides Kathua and Mujgund in Srinagar.
The Minister also highlighted the features of Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) saying that it envisages a “Slum Free India” with inclusive and equitable cities in which every citizen has access to basic civic infrastructure, social amenities and decent shelter. He said the scheme will provide shelter to weaker section of the society.
Responding to the local demand, Mr. Bhalla asked the JMC and JKHB to prepare the estimates for installation of lights, Jullas and renovation of pathway in Green Belt Park in Gandhi Nagar and submit the same for funding.
Later, the Minister distributed 600 old aged pension cheques to his home constituency beneficiaries at a public grievances redressal camp at Dusshera Ground, here this afternoon.
District Social Welfare OfficerSudhir Bali and other senior officers of Social Welfare Department were present on the occasion.
