Bhalla, Gurezi review functioning of Horticulture Department

SRINAGAR, May 21: To review and assess the functioning and progress of horticulture sector in the State, a meeting of high level officers was convened under the chairmanship of Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla here today. Minister of State for Horticulture, and Sheep Husbandry, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi was also present on the occasion.
The meeting discussed various matters related to horticulture sector of the State and deliberated upon various aspects in detail to boost and rejuvenate horticulture industry so that people associated are benefited.
While taking the review of the departmental activities, Mr Bhalla said that horticulture sector is backbone of State’s economy and this sector has remained prime priority of present Government. He said various schemes have been introduced to increase the horticulture produce besides techniques are available to improve and maintain quality.
The Minister also stressed upon the concerned officers to personally monitor ongoing projects being implemented under various schemes across the State, adding that proper monitoring, judicious utilization of funds and optimal use of the resources will ensure timely completion of these projects which will benefit the farmers at grass root level.
Emphasising for strengthening of departmental nurseries, Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to work with more dedication and zeal to make department more vibrant. He asked them to adopt modern technology and scientific methods to maximize horticulture production.
Nazir Ahmad Gurezi also enjoined upon the officers for making farmers aware about latest techniques and methods for increasing production and maintaining its standard. He suggested for opting organic policy for horticulture which has good demand in market.
The meeting also discussed administrative issues of the department and it was given out that all the advertised posts will be filled soon.
Secretary Horticulture Department, Director Horticulture Jammu, kashmir, Director Horticulture Production and Marketing, Director Finance, Horticulture, Managing Director JKHPMC, all Chief Horticulture Officers of the State and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
