Bhalla, BSP deputation call on Governor

JAMMU, Apr 5: Raman Bhalla, Minister of Housing, Horticulture and Culture,  called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here this evening.
During the meeting, the Governor and Mr Bhalla discussed various important issues relating to the preservation and promotion of the glorious composite cultural heritage of the State. Modalities were also discussed to upgrade various facilities at Jammu Kala Kendra to make it a hub of cultural activities. These include exploring the possibility of putting in place an open air theatre, providing suitable arrangements for seating audiences, drinking water, upgrading the existing lighting system, provision of portable PAS etc.
Mr Bhalla also briefed the Governor about the to-date status of the implementation of the various schemes being implemented for the promotion of Horticulture sector in the State. He said that more areas are being brought under orchards and the awareness of growers about the latest horticulture practices is being enlarged. The Governor stressed the high importance of regular monitoring and review of the implementation of the various Centrally Sponsored Schemes being executed in the Horticulture sector in the State to maximize the benefits therefrom to the growers.
The Minister also briefed the Governor about the efforts being made to provide low cost housing facilities, particularly to the poorer segments of the society.
Mr Bhalla discussed with the Governor various matters pertaining to the measures being taken by the Shrine Boards for bringing about progressive improvements to benefit Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji and Shri Amarnathji Yatris.
Meanwhile,  a deputation of the Bahujan Samaj Party (J&K), called on Mr. Vohra, and presented to him a memorandum of their demands.
The demands presented by the 7-member deputation which was led by Tulsi Dass Langeh, State President of the Party, included, setting up of more Yatra Slip Counters at Katra, installation of Passenger Ropeway from Bhawan to Bhairon Temple and quota for senior citizens in helicopter tickets for undertaking Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji and Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
Other demands projected by the deputation included providing compensation to the farmers on enhanced rates whose lands have been acquired for 4-laning of the National Highway, particularly between Nagrota and Tikri; regulation of fee structure of private educational institutions; implementation in totality of the Mandal Commission recommendations in the State and reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes in the appointments made under Rehbar-e-Taleem, SSA, NRHM.
