Bhaderwah Campus organizes expert lectures on earthquakes

BHADERWAH, June 15: In wake of  a number of  earthquakes being witnessed in the  Chenab Valley for  the past one year, a  series of lectures were organized by Bhaderwah Campus to aware the general masses about the types, causes of origin and precautions to be taken pre and post major earthquakes.
Prof  Paul Denton, a renowned seismologist  from British Geological Survey, in his power point presentation, very lucidly highlighted the causes and types of earthquakes though better simulation models which attracted a great interest amongst the student community.
Dr Bindra Thusoo (Fellow Geological Society of London, Honorary Senior Research Fellow & Research Supervisor, Meghreb Petroleum Research Group (MPRG), University College London, UK  Research Affiliate Scientist & Project Advisor) in his expert talk gave an overview of the geological composition and tectonic activity in this part of the Himalayas.
Prof  G M Bhat, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus and an eminent geologist detailed out the basics of earthquakes especially in the Chenab catchments.
