RAJOURI, May 7: A B.Tech student of  Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University  (BGSBU) and son of  Registrar of the same Varsity, Prof Mohd Rashid, drowned in a nallah in a tragic mishap at Androla village, about 15 kms from here this afternoon.
The dead body of the deceased Haroon Rashid (21),  a brilliant student of the University, could be traced after 5-hour long search operation by the Army and Police divers at around 9.15 pm tonight. Entire district administration and shell shocked staff and students of the University, relatives and friends of the deceased remained on the spot for hours together. SP Rajouri Mubassar Latiffi, an Army Colonel and Vice Chancellor of the University Prof I A Hamal were personally supervising the search operation.
Reports said the boy was appearing in 6th semester exams of  B.Tech.  Today also he appeared in one of the papers. After finishing his exam, he along with his 4-5 friends including his fast friend, Tafassal Hamal, son of  VC, Prof  I A Hamal went to nallah in an Indica car for bathing, about 15 kms away from there.  This boy was not perfect in swimming. While his friends started putting on their clothes after bathing, Haroon remained bathing and suddenly got trapped in deep water and drowned.  He raised hands for help and  two of  his friends rushed and jumped into the water but could not save him.
It was around 4 pm when the mishap took place. The boys raised alarm and also contacted University staff and other friends on mobile phone. The police was also sounded from the spot by his friends. SP Rajouri, Mubassar Latiffi along with police force  and divers reached there and started search operation. VC and other staff also reached there in no time. As the cops and local boys failed after an hour of search to trace body, they sought Army assistance. The soldiers of Engineering Regiment launched search with the help of  a boat and after 5-hour long operation they managed to trace body from 20 feet deep water near a rock. They also used search lights during operation as it was dark.
Hundreds of people had gathered there since 4.30 pm. The body was later shifted to District hospital Rajouri for postmortem.  It had swollen. The family members, entire staff and students of University were deeply shocked over the mishap. The boy was very intelligent and active in other university programmes. The police said that investigation into the matter has been started.
