BGSBU Professor becomes Member Biodiversity Council

JAMMU, Sept 5: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir established J&K Biodiversity Council for conservation of Biodiversity of Jammu and Kashmir.
This council will work in consultation with the National Biodiversity Authority of India. Dr Susheel Verma, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany of BGSB University has been included in the Council as non- official member.
Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Prof Javed Musarrat congratulated Dr Verma for his inclusion in the apex body established by the Govt of Jammu and Kashmir for the conservation of Biodiversity. Prof. Musarrat said that Jammu and Kashmir is endowed with rich natural resources which needs to be preserved. He lauded the decision of the UT Govt of Jammu and Kashmir for setting up the Biodiversity Council.
Dr Verma joined as Scientist in Centre for Biodiversity Studies, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri in the year 2007. He got extramural funding to the tune of about Rs. 2.50 crores from different funding agencies like DST, DBT, MoEFCC and NMHS of Govt of India to undertake research in the area of Biodiversity Conservation. Dr Verma has been instrumental in the establishment of Lead Botanic Garden for North Western Geographic region of India in BGSBU with financial support from Ministry of Environment Forests and climate Change in 2009.
