RAJOURI, Sept 19: To commemorate 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Department of Botany, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri organized a public lecture on, “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in present times”.
The lecture was delivered by Padma Shree, Dr S P Verma, President, Gandhi Global family, J&K, who said that the Gandhian philosophy has inspired millions across the globe and will always remain relevant in times to come. He said that Gandhi explored a whole new dimension of the human psyche by bringing about a socio-political change based on justice and equality.
Dr Verma narrated his personal experiences with the global community and said that Gandhi is widely respected and celebrated across the globe. He quoted various global leaders admiring Gandhi in establishing principals of peace, non violence, equality and justice. He said that the ideology of Mahatma is admired throughout the world for its universal and spiritual appeal. Its relevance in the contemporary turbulent times is more than it was in the past, he said and advised the students to become the preachers of peace and humanity.
On the occasion, Dr Verma announced the constitution of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah International Peace Award by Gandhi Global Family to be conferred annually to the individuals for their efforts towards global peace.
Prof G M Malik, Dean of Students, was the chief guest on the occasion and he highlighted the importance of Gandhian philosophy in present times. He said that Gandhi must be represented by our actions.
Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Zarri, Registrar of the University, also spoke on the occasion and said that BGSBU is open to partner with Gandhi Global Family in its various endeavors for promoting peace and humanity.
Earlier, Dr Sushail Verma , HOD Botany, presented the welcome address. Those who were present on the occasion, included members of Gandhi Global Family, heads of various departments ,faculty members, Research scholars and students of the University.
