Bar Association to approach LG for financial assistance to advocates

JAMMU, Nov 2: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu has decided to constitute a committee of its members considering the grant of financial assistance to its needy members and approach the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha with the plea.
This was revealed today by the newly constituted presidium of Bar Association in a press conference organized today at Press Club Jammu under the chairmanship of Ved Raj Wazir (Senior Advocate and former president). Click here to watch video
Wazir was accompanied by D K Khajuria (former president), P S Dutta (Senior Advocate and former president), Daljeet Singh Saini (former president), Surinder Singh (former president), M K Bhardwaj (Senior Advocate and former president), Sunil Sethi (senior Advocate and former president), M A Goni (Senior Advocate), P N Raina (Senior Advocate), R K Kotwal (Advocate), Radha Sharma (Advocate) and Mandeep Reen (Advocate) as members of presidium and Pawan Manni (Advocate) as member secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, Wazir said the presidium considered the various problems being faced by the legal fraternity especially the young lawyers, due to COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in restrictions for physical appearance as well as entry in the High Court and subordinate Courts.
He said after considering the day to day affairs of the Bar Association, Jammu, concerning legal fraternity, the presidium has resolved to appeal the LG for grant of financial assistance to the advocates affected by COVID – 19 pandemic and also High Court to release funds from Advocates Welfare Funds for the welfare of Advocates who are without work since March 2020 because of COVID-19.
Wazir further informed that Bar Association has decided to become party in contempt petition pending in the High Court against four young members and persuade the Bench to close the contempt proceedings. He said Bar Association will immediately meet the LG to submit a memorandum of demands of legal fraternity.
“The Association will request the LG to restore earlier system of registration of documents by judicial officers, creation of Family Court, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission within the Court Complex at Janipur, Jammu including the location of Central Administrative Tribunal within the Court Complex Janipur, Jammu,” he added.
The Bar Association will also appeal the L G to provide stipend and interest free loan to the young lawyers up to 10 years standings. He shared that the presidium has resolved to constitute a committee for redrafting of the constitution of JKHCBA, Jammu and same be also got approved from the general house.
The presidium intends to hold the General Election of Bar Association at the earliest possible time, Wazir said. He added that High Court will be persuaded for restoration of old timing i.e. winter and summer as per the old practice.
