JAMMU, May 7: J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) continued its agitation against the police officials of Police Station Gandhi Nagar, responsible for beating and illegally detaining Harshvardhan Gupta, Advocate and demanding their suspension for holding an independent, impartial and fair inquiry by staging a dharna in District Courts Complex today.
JKHCBA condemned the adamant attitude of the police authorities for not suspending the erring officials on one hand and instead falsely claiming through print and social media on the other hand that the erring police personnel have been suspended.
While addressing the dharna, the speakers reiterated their demand for initiating legal action through a team of senior Lawyers, against those who are indulging in false propaganda through social and print media and to file criminal complaints against those who are openly writing defamatory material against the Association and its members and contemptuous language against the judiciary.
MK Bhardwaj, president, JKHCBA while speaking stated that the demand for suspension of police personnel which started as agitation has now become a mass movement against the high handedness and atrocities of police.
He appealed to the civil society and general public of Jammu region to remain vigilant and stay away from the false propaganda of such elements.
Later, in the evening a candle light protest march was taken out which started from Tali Morh and culminated at Balwinder Chowk, Rehari Chungi after passing through  Sarwal and Rehari. Hundreds of lawyers participated in the candle march.
