JAMMU, Dec 3: Normal functioning in all the nationalized banks across Jammu and Kashmir was badly affected today as a relay strike was observed on the call of United Forum of Bank Unions, a conglomerate of five associations of the bank employees and officers on Wednesday.
The protesting bank employees and officers were demanding immediate settlement of wage revision. Suspending work, the protesting employees and officers held protest demonstration in support of their demand. They raised slogans in support of their demand and also against Indian Bank’ Association, which is adamant not to offer more than 11 percent increase over the existing wages.
Except J&K Bank and private banks like ICICI, HDFC etc, employees and officers of all the banks participated in the strike affecting all kinds of banking transactions as well as clearing. At many places, even ATM ran dry while transactions connected with stock exchange transactions were also affected.
General secretary of Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation, Arun Kumar Gupta held the IBA responsible for the strike as the United Forum of Bank Unions was trying its best for negotiations to resolve the issue.
Reports from Udhampur said that a number of bank employees and officers demonstrated in front of SBI Main branch Udhampur and raised slogans in support of their demand. The demonstration was addressed by S L Bhardwaj, M S Rana, R K Trisal and Khem Raj who highlighted the demand and stand of the bank employees’ union.
Pertinent to mention that earlier also, the bank employees had observed strike on the same issue.
