JAMMU, Dec 4: The bank employees and officers associated with AIBEA and AIBOA, constituting all public and non- public sector banks in Jammu, working under the banner of UFBU held a protest demonstration against privatization of public sector banks, in front of RBI, Rail Head complex Jammu today.
A day long dharna was culminated with a massive demonstration in the evening. The employees and officers were protesting against the policy decisions of Union Government which aim at attacking the pro- labour provisions of labour laws and also Govt’s attempts at introducing certain banking reforms, which undermine the basic Banking operation in the country like out sourcing of jobs.
The demonstrators were addressed by Arun Kumar Gupta, general secretary of Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation who informed the demonstrators that banks today deal with huge public savings. Total deposits in the Banks today are Rs 157 lakh crore. Banks are helping the country’s economic development in a big way. Public sector banks are playing a leading role in economic development. The banks were nationalized in 1969 and after that Banks have grown in a big way.
Instead of strengthening the Banks further, the Union Government is trying to privatize the Banks. Government has decided to bring a Bill in the current session of the Parliament to enable the Government to privatize the Banks.
Ashwani Pradhan , general secretary of AIBOA J&K also addressed the gathering to oppose this unwarranted and retrograde move, all bank unions under the banner of united Forum of Bank Unions have given the call for two days continuous strike on December 16 and 17, 2021, demanding withdrawal of this Bill. Arun Kumar Gupta also spoke on the occasion.
