Banihal route transporters on strike for 5 days

KATHUA, May 14: The Banihal route transporters operating their buses on Bani Basholi route are on strike for last five days in protest against the decision of Government to accord permission to a travel agency in running 2X2 seater buses on the route from Jammu.
During last five days no vehicle of Banihal route plied on Bani Basholi route from Jammu.
The Banihal route operators warned to intensify the agitation from tomorrow. However the people have welcomed the decision of operating the new buses on the route as they said that this way the travel has become convenient for them and the time has decreased.
The DC Kathua, Jitender Singh however said that the efforts will be made to sort out the issue. He said the matter was about to be solved but some transporters from Jammu created hurdles.
Meanwhile when contacted the RTO Jammu Ravinder Kotwal said that he has no knowledge of plying 2×2 seater buses on the route as the route permission is given by Transport Commissioner.
He also expressed the hope that the matter will be sorted out.
A delegation of Banihal route transporters also met the Divisional Commissioner at Jammu today and apprised him of the situation created by granding permission to plying of new buses on the route which has resulted resentment among the transporters already operating their vehicles on the route.
