Bandipora-Gurez road reopens after five months

SRINAGAR: The 80-km-long road linking the border town of Gurez near the Line of Control (LoC) with district headquarter Bandipora was today put through after remaining closed for more than five winter months due to accumulation of heavy snow.

An official spokesperson here this evening said that Bandipora-Gurez road was thrown open today on the instructions of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon.

The Divisional Commissioner also stressed upon the Beacon authorities and Deputy Commissioner Bandipora for immediate repair and up-gradation of Bandipora-Sumbal road so that the commuters may not face any inconvenience.

He also directed the concerned officials to speed-up the work, setting the deadline of two weeks. Dr Samoon had on Friday flagged-off 25-seater bus between Gurez and Srinagar. (AGENCIES)
